The Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona was founded in 1946 by Luis Morondo and offered the first concert that year on December the eleventh at the Coliseo Olimpia in Pamplona. Morondo was its conductor for 37 years. The Agrupación Coral de Camara’s aim was to study, play and develop the XVth, XVIth and XVIIth centuries music. As time went by, the repertoire extended to all sorts of vocal music.
In 1950, the Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona was awarded the first prize at the Cité de Lille International Singing Competition which meant recognition at an international level. From that moment till nowadays, the Coral de Cámara has participated in many festivals, having performed in the most prestigious halls and theatres stages around the world: Salle Pleyel and Salle Gaveu in Paris, the Opera Theatre in Algeria, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Metropolitan Opera House of New York, the Constitution Hall in Washington, Les Invalides in Paris, London’s BBC, the Finland Hall in Helsinki, the Concert Hall in New York, Volksbühne in Hannover, Teatro Sodre in Montevideo, the Mauritanie Theatre in Tangier, Gran Teatro in Havana, Sala Pergola in Florence, Concertgebow in Amsterdam.
After Luis Morondo’s death in 1983, Jose Luis Eslava was appointed as conductor and stayed in charge for ten years, during which the Coral encored the previous compositions. Among other places, the Coral toured Finland, Israel, Cuba, the Soviet Union and USA.
José Luis Eslava was replaced by Máximo Oloriz, who started a renewal by means of new voices and a new interpretative style. During his conducting stands out that the Coral took part in several International Festivals such as Biarritz, Mantua, Florence’s Musical Spring, Madrid Sacred Art Festival, all together with a tour around Argentina on December 1995.
In 1998 Koldo Pastor Arriazu became the new conductor of the Coral and under his conduct, contemporary composers were interpreted such as Agustín Gonzalez Acilu, Tomás Marco, Leonardo Balada, Fernando Remacha, Paul Arma, and so forth. The Coral participated in the Alicante International Contemporary Music Festival, the Saragossa IVth Week of Contemporary Music, the Ancient Music Cycle in the San Sebastian Music Fortnight, Aranjuez Royal Palace, the Santander International Festival, the Bilbao and Segovia Sacred Music Weeks, the Cycle \"Generaciones y Escuelas Musicales Europeas\" organized by the Marcelino Botín Foundation and the International Festival of Guitres (France). The Coral also went on a tour around Morocco, giving concerts in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier and Tetuan. It is also remarkable the recording and première of the suite \"El Camino: campo de estrellas\", with pieces by C. Etxeberria, K. Pastor and V. Egea.
Between September 2001 and December 2003, Pedro Maria Ruiz Huici was appointed as conductor. During this period, the Coral took part amongst others in tours around several central europe cities through Germany and the Netherlands, with performances in Aquisgran, Paderborn, Bonn and Maastrich. The Coral performed Haydn’s Missa in tempore Belli at Les Invalides in Paris, together with the Erick Satie Conservatory Orchestra, four solists of the Vienna’s Opera, and Michel Maunas as conductor.
Since January 2004 David Guindano Igarreta became the new conductor with excellent criticims from reviewers. From then onward, the Coral participated in the Segovia Sacred Music Week, the San Sebastian Music Fortnight (Quincena Musical de San Sebastián), the performance of The \"Messiah\" in Catalunya, Aragon, Guipuzcoa and Navarre and the Coral together with the Pamplona Town Hall organised the \"Music in Voce \". In October 2004, records and edits a Compact Disc named \"In memoriam Padre Donostia-Juan Eraso\" with the Spanish Radio and TV, with excellents reviews. In 2005, la Coral conducted by Mr Guindano Igarreta participates in the Holy Week Cycle organized by the Madrid Town Council, Aranjuez Early Music Festival, Pollença International Festival, Santander International Festival and the San Sebastian Music Fortnight (Quincena Musical de San Sebastián) amongst others.In 2006 participates in the Johannes Hieronymus Kaspberger Barroque Opera with Ensemble Elyma and Gabriel Garrido.
Thus in 2006, the Coral makes up a professional steady group of vocals specialized in Old Music giving his first concert for the Marcelino Botin Foundation in March 6th 2006 and performing a program on Francisco Guerrero (1528-1599). This vocal group performs besides this first program during 2006, several concerts with \"Ensaladas\" programs of Mateo Flecha \"El viejo\" (1481-1553) and \"El joven\" (1530-1604), Joan Brudieu (1520-1591) and Bartomeu Cárceres (ca.1550 fl.), as well as a double program of Juan Francés Iribarren (1698-1767) or the IV Madrigales Book of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643).
The Coral has been awarded with the Encomienda de la Orden del Mérito Civil and the Encomienda de la Orden de Alfonso X el Sabio, as well as the Diploma of the South American Organization of Musical Critics as the best vocal ensemble that visited South America.In November 2005, the Cabinet of Ministry awards the Coral with the Gold Medal in recognition of good work.
