The Chamber Choir Ensemble
of Pamplona was founded in 1946 by Luis MORONDO
URRA, who was his conductor until his death in
1983, and has ever since been in the international
music scene. At the beginning, the particular
aim of the choir and its leader was to study the
music of Renaissance and Baroque period but, as
the time went by, they studied any kind of vocal
music. In this period, the Ensemble won the first
prize at the International Music Contest of Lille
(1950), which meant world-wide recognition.
From 1983 to 1993, José
Luis ESLAVA replaced Luis MORONDO as the conductor
until 1993. His objective was to continue the
same work and direction. In this period, the Ensemble
made tours to Finland, Israel, Cuba, Russia and
the United States.
From 1993 to 1998, the
conductor was Máximo OLORIZ. He started
his job renewing the singers and introducing young
pleople who gave a different kind of style in
interpretation. The Ensemble took part in different
International Festivals: Biarritz, Nantua, Venezia,
Madrid. They also made a tour to Argentina in
1995.
From 1998 to 2001, Koldo
PASTOR replaced Máximo OLORIZ. During this
period, the Ensemble worked mainly avant-garde
choral music, which became the style of the group.
Music from Agustín Gómez Acilu,
Tomás Marco, Leonardo Balada. The Ensemble
took part in different national and international
Festivals: XIV Festival of Contemporary Music
of Alicante, XIII Choral Meeting “Ciudad
de Torrevieja”, IV Week of Contemporary
Music of Zaragoza, in the Royal Palace of Aranjuez,
International Festival of Santander, Weeks of
Sacred Music in Bilbao and Segovia, “Generaciones
y Escuelas Musicales Europeas” organised
by Foundation Marcelino Botin in Santander. They
also made a tour to Maroc, where they visited
Rabat, Casablanca, Tanger and Tetuan. It is important
to distinguish the recording and première
of the Choral Suite “El Camino, Campo de
Estrellas”, which includes music composed
by Carlos Etxeberria, Koldo Pastor and Vicente
Egea.
In 2001, a new phase starts
with Pedro María RUIZ HUICI as the conductor.
The first engagement was a trip to Germany and
the Netherlands (Aachen, Bonn, Paderborn, Maastricht)
in September 2001. Then, in December 2001, the
Ensemble, together with the Orchestra of Conservatoire
Erik Satie and four soloists of the Opera of Viena,
with Michel Maunas as the conductor, the choir
performed in Paris the “Mass in Tempore
Belli” (Joseph Haydn).Nowadays, the Ensemble
continues studying the music from XX Century,
but they prepare also music from other centuries
with or without instrumental accompaniment. In
December 2002, they performed a program from Spanish
Renaissance with the Ensemble Durendal of Ancient
Music.
